We received the information below from Rodger Koopman regarding an upcoming opportunity to talk with him and Russ Stephenson. Both gentlemen are current city council members who serve on the Public Works Committee and up for re-election in the fall. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to meet them and find out their views--and share yours. We believe resolution of the parking access issue at Reedy Creek/Trenton and at Graylyn will require the city and state working together to remove unnecessary obstacles and take action. Thus far, we have had several conversations with Mr Stephenson and have been impressed with his proactive efforts to find a solution at Reedy Creek/Trenton.

It's amazing and very sad that the time to close down the Graylyn entry to Umstead, then spending taxpayer's money to actually pave the dead-end entry road (rendering any future fix to be unnecessarily expensive) is measured in weeks, but the time to address the problems for park users that action created is turning into years.
Margaret and Carlton with AU attended this meeting. Margaret has had prior discussions with Russ Stephenson. He has spent a great deal of time on the Reedy Creek/Trenton issue. He has spoken with various parties having diverse opinions (Access Umstead, Umstead Coalition, NCParks, and neighbors) and he has personally visited this area in a genuine effort to arrive at a solution. We know he has been diligently working on a possible solution and will let you know if it is successful.
Mr Koopman voiced his support for convenient access to the park.
